Where to stay in Sonoma

Of the luxury hotels and resorts in Sonoma Valley and neighboring Napa Valley, the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn is the ultimate Wine Country destination oasis. The Inn boasts geothermal fed mineral pools, farm to table dining, and access to championship golf at neighboring Sonoma Golf Club. Located just an hour north of San Francisco, the resort has been catering to discerning travelers for decades. The iconic Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa provides an impeccable setting to relish the enviable Sonoma lifestyle.

Accommodation

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa offers exceptional accommodations in the heart of Wine Country, with guest rooms to suit every taste. We stayed in the Mission Spa Suite which had an open floor plan with oversized Jacuzzi soaking tub. The room had a stunning garden view, welcome wine plus gifts as we were celebrating our engagement. The room also included Le labo toiletries as well as local hand creams and lotions as well as body scrubs.

Geothermal Pools

Geothermal mineral springs-often called hot springs-are a fabulous wellness attribute of Sonoma County. The Geysers area in Northern Sonoma County represents part of the largest geothermal field in the world. Hot mineral springs, which exist around the world, are produced when geothermally-heated and mineralized groundwater emerges from the earth to form pools of water ranging from warmish to scalding.

The thermal waters of Boyes Hot Springs come in a luxurious setting at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. The waters of Boyes Hot Springs can be enjoyed in the pools throughout the resort at the following temperature for your enjoyment.

  • Main pool – 85 degrees
  • Spa pool – 92 degrees
  • Watsu pool – 98 degrees

Most people enjoy springs that hit a sweet spot somewhere between warm and hot-the point at which water relaxes mind and body, soothes aching joints, and introduces a feeling of bliss.

Dining

With a reverence to fresh, simple preparation and the use of local and sustainable ingredients whenever possible, the culinary team at Sante presents an approachable menu that includes flavors, techniques and recipes from several cultures. Seasonal ingredients from regional producers (which include wineries, breweries, ranches, fisheries and farmers) are always center stage.

We tried dishes that the chef recommended:

Appetizers :

  • Salt Roast Baby Beets – macadamia tofu, mustard cress : A dish that we would have never ordered by ourselves turned out to be the highlight of our meal – beautifully booked baby beets on a bed of macadamia tofu bed with some fresh mustard.
  • Boudin Noir & Grilled Squid Salad : We did not know that boudin noir means a blood sausage & what an amazing blood sausage – super tasty and would definitely recommend. The combination of blood sausage & squid was really nice and the whole dish had an amazing balance with some beautiful apple and pine nuts.
  • Caviar & Crisps : sar nicolai classic, crème fraiche, potato chips. This was our first time trying caviar and it did not disappoint.

Mains :

  • 7 Day Dry Aged Duck Breast : Served a beautiful duck breast with confit duck leg, wild rice, persimon & brandy jus.
  • Violet Mustard Crusted Lamb Rack : Perfectly cooked lamb chops served with a beautiful yogurt based spicy sauce.

In-Room Dining :

In-Room Dining at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is not just another meal – it’s the ultimate experience in convenience and comfort. The menu offers healthy and delicious food with a variety that is sure to satisfy. Being early risers, we made a phone to order from the Santé Kitchen menu.

  • Fairmont Breakfast : Two eggs, bacon or chicken sausage, breakfast potatoes, toast, coffee & juice
  • Steel Cut Oatmeal : Brown sugar, walnuts, raisins
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Organic Plain Greek Yogurt and Berries
